About Chat with PDF

Chat with PDF turns a document into something you can ask questions of. Upload a contract, report, manual or paper, type a question, and the answer comes back grounded strictly in that document’s own text; when the answer is not in there, it says so instead of guessing.

The document is uploaded once. Every follow-up question reuses that stored source together with the conversation so far, so you can drill down (the payment terms, then the notice period, then the deadlines) without sending the file again each time.

Each question is a separate AI call and costs credits, so a ten-question conversation costs ten times the per-question price shown next to the Ask button. The tool reads selectable text, so a scanned, image-only PDF has nothing to answer from until it has been through OCR.

How to use Chat with PDF

  1. Drag and drop the PDF you want to question: a contract, report, manual or paper.
  2. Type your question, or pick one of the suggested starters.
  3. Click “Ask” and read the answer, which is drawn only from your document.
  4. Keep asking follow-up questions: the document and the conversation so far are carried forward.
  5. Clear the conversation when you want to start a fresh line of questions on the same document.

Frequently asked questions

Yes: each question is one credited AI call at the price shown next to the Ask button, so a conversation is billed per question, not per document. Uploading the file costs nothing extra, and if a question fails you are not charged.

No. The PDF is uploaded with your first question and every follow-up references that stored copy, which is tied to your own account. It is cleaned up automatically after a retention window, and once it has expired you simply upload it again.

One PDF per conversation, and it needs selectable text: contracts, reports, manuals, papers and exports all work. A scan is a picture of a page with no readable text, so run the OCR PDF tool on it first.

The model is instructed to answer only from the document and to say plainly when the document does not contain the answer, which keeps it far closer to the source than a general chatbot. It can still misread a dense table or an awkwardly extracted layout, so check anything you will rely on against the page itself.

Yes. The answer is written in the language you ask in, whatever language the PDF is written in, so you can question a foreign-language contract in your own.
