About YouTube Tag Extractor

The YouTube Tag Extractor shows the tags a creator added to any public YouTube video. Tags are hidden on the watch page, yet they tell YouTube which searches and topics a video targets, so seeing them is one of the quickest ways to learn how successful videos in your niche are optimized.

Paste a watch, youtu.be, Shorts, live or embed link and the tool reads the video's public metadata: tags, title, description, category, channel, publish date, duration, and the view, like and comment counts when YouTube shares them. Hashtags written in the description are listed separately.

An SEO check compares the title, the description and the tag list with YouTube's limits, including the 500-character tag budget (commas and the quotes around multi-word tags count). Copy one tag with a click, copy them all as a comma-separated list, or export them as a TXT or CSV file.

How to use YouTube Tag Extractor

  1. Copy the link of a public YouTube video, Short or live stream.
  2. Paste it into the link field and click Extract tags.
  3. Review the tags, the hashtags from the description and the SEO check.
  4. Click a tag to copy it, or use Copy all to grab the whole list.
  5. Export the tags as a TXT or CSV file if you want to keep them.

Frequently asked questions

Yes. Looking up a video's tags is free and needs no account, within the site's fair-use limits.

Tags are optional and many creators leave them empty, especially on Shorts. When a video has none, the tool says so. You can then use the AI YouTube Tag Generator to get ideas for your own video.

Unlisted videos work if you have their link. Private and removed videos cannot be read, because their details are not public.

YouTube counts every character of every tag, the commas between tags, and two extra characters for the quotes it adds around a tag that contains a space. The meter uses the same rule.

Tags are public metadata, so reading them is fine. Use them as research and only keep the tags that genuinely describe your own video: misleading tags break YouTube's spam policies.
