About Annotate Screenshot

Annotate Screenshot is a free online markup bench for screenshots and images. Paste a capture straight from your clipboard (Ctrl+V or Cmd+V), drop it on the page or choose a file, then point things out with arrows and lines, frame them with rectangles and ellipses, mark text with a semi-transparent highlighter, draw freehand with the pen, type labels and drop numbered step badges that count 1, 2, 3 on their own.

Every mark stays a separate, editable object: click it to select it, drag it to move it, pull its handles to resize a box or move the ends of an arrow, change its color, stroke width, fill or size, duplicate it or delete it. Double-click a text to edit it in place, and undo or redo any change. Single-key shortcuts (A for arrow, R for rectangle, T for text, N for numbered steps, B for blur…) make it as fast as a desktop app, and it works with a mouse, a touch screen or a stylus.

The blur tool really pixelates the pixels under the area, so passwords, emails, names or faces cannot be read back, and the crop tool trims the final image to the part that matters. Export a PNG or JPG at the original resolution (the marks scale with it) or copy the result to your clipboard and paste it into a chat, a ticket or a document. Everything runs in your browser: the screenshot is never uploaded.

How to use Annotate Screenshot

  1. Take a screenshot, then paste it on the page with Ctrl+V (Cmd+V on a Mac), or drop or choose an image file.
  2. Pick a tool in the toolbar: arrow, line, rectangle, ellipse, highlighter, pen, text, numbered step, blur or crop.
  3. Choose a color, a stroke width, an outline or filled shape and a text or badge size, then draw on the screenshot.
  4. Select any mark to move it, resize it, restyle it, duplicate it or delete it; undo and redo are always one click away.
  5. Blur the private details and crop to the area that matters.
  6. Download a PNG or JPG at full resolution, or copy the annotated image to your clipboard.

Frequently asked questions

Yes. You can annotate as many screenshots as you like and download or copy the results for free, with no watermark and no account.

No. The image is opened, annotated and exported entirely in your browser, which makes the tool safe for screenshots with private information.

Yes. Every mark stays editable until you export: select it to move it, drag its handles to resize it or move the ends of an arrow, change its color or size, duplicate it with Ctrl+D or remove it with Delete. Undo and redo cover every change.

Yes. It pixelates the real pixels under the area into large blocks in the exported image, so the original text or face cannot be recovered from the file. Use it on passwords, email addresses, names, card numbers or faces.

With the Numbered step tool (N), each click drops a round badge with the next number: 1, 2, 3 and so on. Badges can be moved, recolored and resized, and a duplicated badge gets the next number too.

PNG for the sharpest result or JPG for a smaller file, always at the original resolution of your screenshot (or of the cropped area). You can also copy the image to the clipboard and paste it straight into an email, a chat or a bug report.
