About Mute Video

Mute Video strips the audio track from a clip completely, leaving a clean, silent MP4. It is the quick fix when background noise, music rights or a stray conversation means the sound has to go before you share the footage.

The picture is not re-encoded — the video stream is passed through untouched — so muting is fast and costs zero visual quality. Before applying, the page plays your upload muted, exactly like the result, and a toggle lets you flip back to the original sound for comparison; it even tells you if the clip is already silent.

Muting runs on the server and is completely free. If you want to replace the sound rather than just remove it, follow up with the Add Audio to Video tool.

How to use Mute Video

  1. Upload a video — MP4, MOV or WebM.
  2. Preview it muted; use the toggle to compare with the original sound.
  3. Click Mute video.
  4. Download the silent MP4.

Frequently asked questions

No. Only the audio track is removed — the video stream is copied through without re-encoding, so the picture stays exactly as it was, and processing is quick even for long clips.

Yes, muting a video is free with no watermark on the output.

Not from the muted file — the track is gone, not just turned down. Keep your original upload, or extract the soundtrack first with the Extract Audio tool if you may want it later.

Use the Add Audio to Video tool in Replace mode — it swaps the original soundtrack for your new music or voice-over in one step, no separate muting needed.

The page inspects the file when you upload it. If no audio track is detected, it lets you know there is nothing to remove — some cameras and screen recorders produce silent files by default.
