About Protect PDF

Protect PDF locks a document with a password. Once protected, the file demands the password before it opens, and copying and editing are restricted — a straightforward way to password-protect a PDF before emailing contracts, payslips, reports or anything else you would rather not leave readable to whoever intercepts the attachment.

A strength meter rates your password as you type, a generator can suggest a strong one, and a confirmation field prevents typos from locking you out. After protection, the tool shows your password once more with a copy button so you can store it safely.

The encryption is applied on the server using standard PDF security, so the protected file behaves correctly in every modern PDF reader. Keep the password safe: it cannot be recovered if you forget it.

How to use Protect PDF

  1. Drag and drop the PDF you want to protect.
  2. Choose a password — the strength meter rates it, or click “Suggest a strong password”.
  3. Repeat the password in the confirmation field.
  4. Click “Protect PDF”.
  5. Copy your password from the confirmation screen and store it somewhere safe, then download the protected file.
