About Mic Test
The Mic Test verifies that your microphone actually picks up sound. Start the test, allow microphone access, and speak: a live input-level meter and a real-time waveform respond instantly. If the meter moves, your mic works; if it stays flat, the tool helps you spot the classic culprit — the wrong input device selected.
A device picker lists every microphone your system exposes — headset, built-in array, USB interface — so you can test each one. For a full round-trip check, record a five-second clip and play it back to hear exactly what you sound like, including background noise and levels.
Your audio never leaves the device. The meter and waveform are computed locally in your browser, nothing is uploaded, and the test clip lives only in the current tab — it is discarded the moment you leave the page.
How to use Mic Test
- Click “Start mic test” and allow microphone access when prompted.
- Speak normally and watch the input-level meter and waveform respond.
- If the meter stays flat, switch inputs with the microphone picker and try again.
- Record the five-second clip and play it back to hear your actual sound quality.
- Click Stop to end the test and release the microphone.
