Area of any shape in ft², m² and yd², plus cost

Add as many areas as you like — each is computed in your chosen unit and combined into one total. Perimeter and cost are shown when they can be derived. Cost uses the price per unit area in the unit you selected.

About Square Footage Calculator

The square footage calculator measures the area of any space — in square feet, square meters, and square yards at once. Choose your measurement unit (meters, feet, or yards), pick a shape for each area — rectangle, circle, triangle, or a border/L-shape — and enter the dimensions; totals convert to all three units automatically.

Real spaces are rarely one clean rectangle, so you can add as many areas as you need and multiply any of them by a quantity of identical copies — five equal bedrooms, three windows, a run of planter boxes. The border shape subtracts an inner rectangle from an outer one, which handles walkways, frames, and L-shaped rooms.

An optional price per unit area turns the total into a cost estimate, the natural next step when pricing flooring, turf, paint, or land. Perimeter is reported wherever it can be derived. The whole thing runs free in your browser — measure, add, and re-shape as often as you like.

How to use Square Footage Calculator

  1. Choose your measurement unit: meters, feet, or yards.
  2. Pick the shape of the first area — rectangle, circle, triangle, or border/L-shape — and enter its dimensions.
  3. Set a quantity if several identical areas exist, and click “Add another area” for differently shaped sections.
  4. Optionally enter a price per unit area to get a cost estimate.
  5. Read the total in m², ft², and yd², plus the perimeter and cost where available.

Frequently asked questions

Multiply length by width in feet: a 12 × 10 ft room is 120 ft². For circles use π × (diameter ÷ 2)², and for triangles ½ × base × height. The calculator applies the right formula per shape and sums everything.

Divide by 10.7639 — or just read the m² line, since every total is shown simultaneously in square meters, square feet, and square yards regardless of the unit you measured in.

Split it into simple shapes and add them: two rectangles cover most L-shapes, or use the border shape to subtract an inner rectangle from an outer one. Add each piece as a separate area and the tool combines them into one total.

Total area multiplied by the price you enter per unit area, in the measurement unit you selected. Enter a per-ft² flooring price while measuring in feet, or a per-m² price in meters — keep price and unit consistent.

Perimeter is shown when it can be derived from the shape’s inputs — rectangles, circles, and borders qualify. For a triangle defined only by base and height, the side lengths are unknown, so no perimeter can be computed.
