Frequently asked questions

Required = (desired − current × (1 − w)) ÷ w, where w is the final’s weight divided by 100. It rearranges the weighted average so the exam score is the unknown being solved for.

Even a perfect 100% on the final would not lift your weighted average to the desired grade. Lower the target, or check whether extra credit or other remaining assessments can close the gap.

Good news — your current grade is already high enough that even a 0% on the final keeps you at or above the target. The “worst possible grade” line confirms your floor.

Check the course syllabus — it lists each component’s share, such as “final exam: 40%”. If the syllabus gives points instead, divide the final’s points by the course total and multiply by 100.

Yes, as long as all three inputs use the same scale. Percentages are typical, but any 0–100 point scheme works; convert letter grades to their percentage equivalents first.
