About Engagement Rate Calculator

The engagement rate calculator measures how actively an audience interacts with an Instagram, TikTok, or X account. Enter the follower count and the average likes, comments, and shares or saves per post, and it returns the engagement rate as a percentage together with a benchmark verdict.

The formula is the industry standard: (likes + comments + shares) ÷ followers × 100. You can also switch the basis from followers to average reach, which many marketers prefer because it measures engagement against the people who actually saw the post rather than the whole follower base.

Brands and influencer-marketing teams use this number to vet creators before a collaboration, and creators use it to track account health over time. The calculation runs entirely in your browser, free, so you can check as many accounts as you like.

How to use Engagement Rate Calculator

  1. Choose the platform — Instagram, TikTok, or X.
  2. Enter the account’s follower count.
  3. Fill in the average likes and comments per post, plus shares or saves if you track them.
  4. Optionally switch the basis to average reach and enter the reach per post.
  5. Read the engagement rate, interactions per post, and the benchmark verdict.

Frequently asked questions

Interactions divided by audience, times 100: (likes + comments + shares) ÷ followers × 100. If you select reach as the basis, the same interactions are divided by average reach per post instead.

On a follower basis, 1–3% is average, 3–6% is good, and anything above 6% is excellent. Reach-based rates run higher because reach is usually smaller than the follower count.

Smaller audiences are more tightly connected to the creator, so a larger share of followers interacts with each post. Expect engagement to drift down naturally as an account grows — that alone is not a red flag.

Follower-based rates are the common public benchmark and easy to compare across accounts. Reach-based rates are more accurate for judging content quality, since they ignore dormant followers — use them when you have access to the account’s insights.

Take the mean of the last 10–12 non-viral posts. One outlier post can distort the rate badly in either direction, so exclude anything that clearly went viral or flopped for external reasons.
