About Percentage Calculator

The percentage calculator bundles six live percentage tools on one page: what is X% of Y, X is what percent of Y, percentage change between two values, increasing or decreasing a value by a percentage, a tip calculator with bill splitting, and a discount calculator. Each one updates as you type and states its answer as a plain sentence.

Every calculator shows its formula, so you learn the method along with the answer: X% of Y is Y × X ÷ 100; “what percent” is X ÷ Y × 100; percentage change is (Y − X) ÷ X × 100. The tip tool divides the tipped total across any number of people, and the discount tool reports both the money saved and the final price.

Frequently asked questions

Multiply the number by the percent and divide by 100: 15% of 80 is 80 × 15 ÷ 100 = 12. The first calculator on the page does exactly this as you type.

Divide the part by the whole and multiply by 100: 45 out of 60 is 45 ÷ 60 × 100 = 75%. Useful for test scores, progress toward goals, and market shares.

New minus old, divided by old, times 100: (Y − X) ÷ X × 100. Going from 200 to 250 is a 25% increase; from 250 back to 200 is a 20% decrease — the asymmetry trips people up, which is why the tool labels the direction.

A move from 40% to 50% is a rise of 10 percentage points but a 25% relative increase. The change calculator gives the relative figure; subtract the raw percentages yourself when you need points.

It computes the tip as bill × rate, adds it to the bill, and divides the total by the number of people: tip = bill × %; per person = (bill + tip) ÷ people. You see the tip amount, the grand total, and each person’s share.
