About Calories Burned Calculator

The calories burned calculator estimates the energy you use during five common workouts — walking, running, cycling, swimming and weight training — from your body weight and how long you exercise. Weight matters because moving a heavier body costs more energy per minute.

It uses the standard MET formula: kcal = MET × 3.5 × weight in kg ÷ 200 × minutes. Each activity has a typical MET (metabolic equivalent) value — 3.5 for walking, 9.8 for running, 7.5 for cycling, 8.0 for swimming and 5.0 for weight training — shown with your result along with the burn per minute and per hour.

Frequently asked questions

A metabolic equivalent — a multiple of your resting energy use. Sitting quietly is 1 MET; running at 9.8 METs burns nearly ten times resting energy. The calculator shows which MET it applied.

The formula scales linearly with weight: moving more mass takes more energy. A 90 kg runner burns roughly 30% more calories than a 70 kg runner over the same duration.

Trackers estimate from heart rate and motion, while this tool uses average MET values. Both are approximations; differences of 10–20% between methods are entirely normal.
