About Volume Calculator

The volume calculator computes the volume and surface area of six 3D solids: box, sphere, cylinder, cone, square-based pyramid and capsule — a cylinder capped with two hemispheres. Choose the shape, type the dimensions and both figures appear at once.

Each solid uses its textbook formula: length × width × height for a box, 4⁄3πr³ for a sphere, πr²h for a cylinder and one third of that for a cone. Surface area is computed alongside, which is handy when you also need to paint, wrap or insulate the object.

A cylinder with a hemispherical cap on each end, like a pill. Its volume is the cylinder part plus a full sphere of the same radius, and the tool asks for the radius and the cylinder height.

Yes, this calculator assumes a square base: volume = base side² × height ÷ 3. For a rectangular base you can adapt by computing the base area separately.

Whatever unit you enter, cubed for volume and squared for surface area. Enter centimeters and you get cm³ and cm²; enter feet and you get ft³ and ft².

Work in centimeters or meters first: 1,000 cm³ equals 1 liter and 1 m³ equals 1,000 liters (about 264 US gallons). A dedicated unit converter can finish the job.

A cone’s volume is precisely one third of the cylinder that shares its radius and height — πr²h ÷ 3. It is a classic geometric relationship, and the calculator reflects it exactly.
