Running bytecode built with a higher JDK on an older JRE (e.g. compiled with JDK 17, run on Java 8).

How to fix it

Run the app on a JVM at least as new as the compiler, or recompile targeting the older runtime (javac --release 8). Align JAVA_HOME and the build's target/release version.
