About Tip Calculator

The tip calculator works out the tip on a bill and splits the total across your party. Enter the bill amount, choose a tip percentage — from quick presets or a custom value — set how many people are splitting, and it shows what each person pays.

In the US, 15–20% of the pre-tax bill is customary for table service, with 20% common for good service. Norms differ elsewhere — in many countries 5–10% or simple rounding is standard.

Before tax. The calculator applies your percentage to the bill amount you enter, which is the customary base — tipping on the after-tax total slightly inflates the tip.

It nudges the tip upward just enough that every individual share becomes a whole amount. The service gets slightly more, and nobody is hunting for coins when the group settles up.

The bill plus tip is divided evenly by the party size, and the tool also shows the tip portion per person. For uneven splits by item, calculate each person's subtotal separately.
