Mid-parental height
Mid-parental method: (mother + father ± 13 cm) ÷ 2, plus for boys and minus for girls, with most children ending within ±8.5 cm. A screening estimate only — growth charts and the Khamis-Roche method (which adds the child's current size) are more precise.

Acerca de Child Height Predictor

The Child Height Predictor estimates how tall a child will be as an adult using the mid-parental height method, the screening calculation paediatricians reach for first. Enter the mother's and father's heights, choose the child's sex, and the tool returns a predicted adult height plus the range most children actually land in.

The method averages the two parents' heights and then adds about 6.5 cm for a boy or subtracts about 6.5 cm for a girl — equivalent to the classic version that adds 13 cm to the mother's height for a boy, or subtracts 13 cm from the father's height for a girl. Roughly 95% of children finish within about 8.5 cm (3.3 in) of that target, which is why the result is shown as a range rather than a single number.

It is a genetic-potential estimate, not a measurement. Nutrition, health, sleep, puberty timing and simple variation all move the outcome, and clinicians refine it with growth-chart percentiles or the Khamis-Roche method, which also uses the child's current height, weight and age. Preguntas frecuentes

Average the two parents' heights, then add 6.5 cm for a boy or subtract 6.5 cm for a girl. The result is the child's target adult height, with most children finishing within about ±8.5 cm of it.

It is a screening estimate. The ±8.5 cm band covers about 95% of children, which is a spread of roughly 17 cm — useful for spotting a child growing well outside their genetic potential, not for guaranteeing a final number.

It is a more precise prediction that adds the child's current age, height and weight to the parents' heights. It typically lands within about 5 cm of adult height for children over four, but needs measurements this calculator does not ask for.

No. Height is roughly 80% heritable in well-nourished populations, but nutrition, chronic illness, sleep, physical activity and the timing of puberty all shift where a child lands within their genetic range.

Most girls reach their adult height around 14–16 and most boys around 16–18, when the growth plates close after puberty. Growth continues later in children whose puberty starts later.
