About Brick Breaker

Brick Breaker follows the blueprint of Atari’s 1976 arcade hit Breakout — a game Steve Wozniak famously helped engineer: a ball ricochets around the field while you slide a paddle along the bottom to keep it in play and smash rows of bricks. Clearing every brick advances you to a faster level.

Higher rows are worth more points, and the paddle is your steering wheel — hitting the ball near an edge sends it off at a sharper angle, letting you aim for stubborn corners. You start with three lives, and the ball gets quicker with every level. Mouse, touch and keyboard controls are all supported in this free browser version.

How to use Brick Breaker

  1. Move the paddle with your mouse, your finger, or the Left and Right arrow keys.
  2. Click, tap or press Space to launch the ball off the paddle.
  3. Bounce the ball into the bricks — higher rows score more points.
  4. Steer your returns: hitting the ball near a paddle edge sends it off at a sharper angle.
  5. Clear every brick to advance to the next, faster level; you have three lives, and the run ends when the last ball drops.

Frequently asked questions

The bounce angle depends on where the ball meets the paddle: center hits rebound steeply, edge hits fly off at sharp angles. Deliberately catching the ball off-center is how you target specific bricks.

Higher rows carry higher point values, rewarding play that tunnels the ball up behind the wall where it can rack up bounces. Opening a side channel early is a classic Breakout strategy.

Each cleared board reloads the bricks and nudges the ball speed up, while your score carries over. Later levels are mostly a test of tracking a faster ball without panicking the paddle.

Three per game. A life is lost whenever the ball slips past the paddle, and the game ends when all three are gone — so protect low, fast diagonals near the edges.

Yes — drag your finger along the field to move the paddle and tap to launch. The game is free and browser-based on desktop and mobile alike.
