About Audio Compressor

The Audio Compressor makes music, podcasts and voice recordings smaller in seconds. MP3, M4A, AAC, OGG, Opus and WMA files keep their format and are re-encoded at a lower bitrate, worked out from the bitrate of your own file, so every level really saves space.

WAV, AIFF and FLAC files are lossless and cannot shrink in their own format: save them as FLAC for identical sound at about half the size, or as MP3, M4A or Opus for a much smaller file. Converting to mono and removing the embedded cover art save even more.

Compression runs on the server and keeps your tags. You never get a bigger file: when a file cannot get any smaller, you get your original back. The tool is free and needs no account.

How to use Audio Compressor

  1. Upload your audio file: MP3, M4A, AAC, OGG, Opus, WMA, WAV, AIFF or FLAC.
  2. Pick a compression level: Light, Medium or Strong.
  3. Optionally convert to mono or remove the cover art to save more.
  4. Click Compress audio and download your smaller file.

Frequently asked questions

Yes. MP3 is already a compressed format, so it gets smaller by re-encoding at a lower bitrate. A 320 kbps file loses half its size at the Medium level with hardly any audible change. Files that are already at a low bitrate have less room left.

Lossy formats always trade some detail for size. Light keeps the sound close to the original, Medium is the best balance for music, and Strong is ideal for voice, podcasts and audiobooks.

WAV is uncompressed, so it shrinks by changing format. Choose FLAC to keep identical sound at about half the size, or MP3, M4A or Opus to cut it by up to 90%.

Yes. Title, artist and other tags are kept, and the cover art is kept in MP3, M4A and FLAC files. Switch on Remove cover art to save a little more space.

Yes, compressing is free with no signup. Files are processed securely on the server and cleaned up automatically.
