Dividends are paid annually at the stated yield on the starting share price, growing at the dividend growth rate; the share price grows at its own rate. With DRIP on, each year's dividends buy shares at that year's price. Taxes and fees are ignored.

Acerca de Dividend Calculator

The Dividend Calculator projects what a dividend-paying investment could become over time. Enter your initial investment, the share price, the dividend yield, how fast the dividend and the share price grow each year and how many years you want to model, and it builds a year-by-year table of share count, dividend income and portfolio value.

The reinvestment switch is where the compounding shows. With DRIP on, each year's dividends buy more shares at that year's price, so the share count grows and the following year's income is larger — the classic snowball. With it off, dividends are taken as cash and the share count stays fixed, which is how income investors model a portfolio they actually live on.

Use it to see how many years of reinvestment it takes for dividend income to reach a target, or to compare a high-yield, low-growth holding against a lower-yield dividend grower. Taxes, fees and dividend cuts are not modelled, so treat the output as a projection rather than a forecast.

Cómo usar Dividend Calculator

  1. Enter your initial investment and the current share price.
  2. Add the dividend yield as a percentage.
  3. Set how fast you expect the dividend and the share price to grow each year.
  4. Choose the number of years to project and whether dividends are reinvested.
  5. Read the projected portfolio value, total dividends and the year-by-year table.

Preguntas frecuentes

A dividend reinvestment plan automatically uses each dividend payment to buy more shares instead of paying cash. Those extra shares pay dividends of their own, which is what makes returns compound.

Yield is the annual dividend per share divided by the share price, expressed as a percentage. A $2 annual dividend on a $50 share is a 4% yield.

It is the annual rate at which a company raises its payout. A 3% yield growing 8% a year overtakes a static 5% yield within about a decade, so growth often matters more than the starting yield.

Reinvesting maximises long-term growth while you are accumulating; taking cash makes sense once you need the income. The calculator lets you model both by toggling the reinvestment switch.

No. Dividends are usually taxable in a standard account, and fees, dividend cuts and share price volatility are not modelled either. Real returns will differ from a smooth projection.
