The MAC Address Lookup identifies the hardware manufacturer behind a MAC address. Paste a full address in any separator style — colons, hyphens, dots or nothing at all — or just its first six hex digits, the OUI, and the vendor is resolved instantly from a dataset bundled with the page.
The address itself is decoded too. The tool reads the low bits of the first octet to tell you whether the address is unicast or multicast, whether it is universally administered (assigned to a vendor by the IEEE) or locally administered (randomized or set by hand), and it recognises the all-ones broadcast address.
Everything happens in your browser: the vendor table is shipped with the page and the matching is done locally, so no address you type is ever sent to a server. The bundled dataset covers 305 of the most commonly encountered OUI prefixes across 39 vendors — consumer, networking and virtualization brands — rather than the full IEEE registry.
