The lawn area is the sum of the rectangular sections. Rolls are rounded up to whole rolls; the pallet figure is area ÷ pallet coverage. Seed rates are for new lawns — overseeding usually needs about half as much.

אודות Sod & Grass Seed Calculator

The Sod & Grass Seed Calculator sizes a new lawn. Enter up to three rectangular areas — most gardens are easier to measure as a few rectangles than as one odd shape — and the tool totals the area, adds a waste allowance and tells you how many sod rolls or pallets, or how many pounds of grass seed, the job needs.

Sod is sold by the roll and by the pallet, and coverage varies by supplier. A common US roll covers about 9 ft² (0.836 m²) and a pallet around 450 ft² (41.8 m²), but the figures are editable so you can enter exactly what your supplier quotes. Rolls are rounded up to whole units since you cannot buy a fraction of one.

For seeding, rates are entered per 1,000 ft² in imperial or per 100 m² in metric. New lawns typically need 2–3 kg per 100 m² (4–6 lb per 1,000 ft²) depending on the species, while overseeding an existing lawn usually needs about half as much. Always add waste for shaped edges and cuts.

Measure the lawn area, add 5%–10% for waste, then divide by the coverage of one roll and round up. For irregular gardens, split the space into rectangles and total them, which is what this calculator does.

It varies by supplier — commonly 400–500 ft² (about 37–46 m²) per pallet, made up of roughly 45–50 rolls. Always confirm the figure with your supplier and enter it in the calculator.

New lawns generally need 2–3 kg per 100 m² (roughly 4–6 lb per 1,000 ft²). Fine fescues go at the lower end, ryegrass mixes at the higher end. Overseeding needs about half the new-lawn rate.

Sod gives an instant lawn, controls erosion immediately and can be laid over a longer season, but costs several times more. Seed is far cheaper and offers more variety choice, but needs weeks of careful watering and a suitable sowing window.

Around 5% for a simple rectangle and up to 10% for curved beds, paths and awkward corners, where more offcuts end up unusable.
